Camper Support Specialist

Camp Beech Cliff is seeking a senior-level administrative seasonal staff for our traditional summer day camp Camper Support Specialist responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Responsibilities

-Work collaboratively and communicate with camper families, the camp management, and

-Administrative Team to meet the best interests of the camper both before and during the

summer camp season

-Deliver training to staff on areas such as mental health and positive behavior management, as

well as appropriate responses to situations that may occur at camp

-Provide on-going coaching and support to camp staff as it relates to meeting camper mental,

behavioral, social and emotional needs

-Ensure proper response, follow-through and debrief on situations arising with campers

-Make referrals to support services in home communities of the campers

-Establish relationships with youth that reflect respect, trust, and empathy

-Model healthy choices and emotional maturity

Minimum qualifications:  Current LSW or MSW

-Experience working with youth aged 5- 15 in a professional mental health setting

-Desire and ability to work with children and adults in camp setting

-Enthusiasm, flexibility, clear communication skills, patience, self-regulation and well-

developed counseling skills

-Ability to work closely with Camp Director

-Ability to work independently and with a team

-Ability to represent and act as liaison for camp with parents and community members •

-Understanding and sensitive to the challenges faced by youth from various socioeconomic

backgrounds

-Skilled in building interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence positive decision-

making, listen, manage conflict, and practice sensitivity and compassion

-Certified in CPR and Standard First Aid, Wilderness First Aid (WFA), or are willing to obtain

-Willing to submit to a Criminal Background Check

-Provide our team with training and development opportunities

Considerations: Applicants should realize that the job of a camp staff is challenging, demanding, and requires a great deal of patience and understanding. Personal lifestyle sacrifices will have to be made including disconnecting from daily use of digital technology during the camp day. Sensitive and dynamic leadership is necessary to provide youngsters the opportunity to grow, learn to positively relate to others, establish life-long values, and increase their appreciation of the natural world. All staff must adhere to the health and safety laws set forth by the State of Maine Dept of Human Services Youth Camps Division, and standards for accreditation with the American Camping Association.

Commitment: Camp Season Commitment – June through end of August. Approximately 100 hours of pre-camp work communicating with parents and families as preparation for their child’s time at camp, and some post- season hours to de-brief and compile reports regarding camper services. 40 hrs./week $17-$20/hr (DOE) plus Housing. www.campbeechcliff.org or contact matt@campbeechcliff.org.
