It is a means to facilitate our achieving the critical objective: <strong>innovation<\/strong><\/em>.&#8221; &#8211;\u00a0National Science Foundation<\/h3>\n<h3>Evolution of the Rising Tide Center<\/h3>\n<p>The Rising Tide Center was established with funding from the National Science Foundation\u00a0<strong>ADVANCE Institutional Transformation<\/strong> program. With this support, the University of Maine succeeded in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meeting or exceeding most proposed targets for recruitment, retention and advancement of women faculty in STEM\/SBS fields at UMaine;<\/li>\n<li>Fostering changes in workplace policies and campus climate;<\/li>\n<li>Increasing job satisfaction among women STEM\/SBS faculty; and<\/li>\n<li>Serving more than 80% of UMaine faculty through voluntary participation at one or more Rising Tide Center events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The data-driven methods used to implement and sustain these positive changes at UMaine include offering professional development opportunities for faculty, encouraging utilization of family-friendly policies, establishing a dual-career support system to attract and retain faculty talent, introducing a targeted mentoring program, and offering\u00a0best-practices training for administrators\u00a0and search and peer committee members.\u00a0Rising Tide staff and collaborators have produced numerous <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/risingtide\/resource\/rising-tide-researchers-publication-list\/\">peer-reviewed publications<\/a> and national and international <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/risingtide\/resource\/rising-tide-researchers-publication-list\/\">presentations<\/a>\u00a0that serve as a resource for the UMaine system, and for other academic institutions.<\/p>\n<h3>Sustaining the Rising Tide<\/h3>\n<p>In recognition of the success of ADVANCE initiatives implemented at UMaine and exemplifying the center&#8217;s partnership with administration, the\u00a0Provost provides oversight and financial support\u00a0for the Rising Tide Center which now serves a broader stakeholder base with a renewed focus on supporting gender equity at UMaine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rising Tide Center Personnel Rising Tide Center Partners and Affiliates Featured Faculty &#8220;Diversity is not the objective.
