March 24: ADVANCE Rising Tide 5-Year Anniversary Celebration
The Rising Tide Center offers this event to thank our supporters, and all who have participated in ADVANCE initiatives over the last five years. Our goal is to inspire women scientists at UMaine, and to sustain the celebration of the many accomplishments of women in academia.
Dr. Meredith Hastings, co-founder of the Earth Science Women’s Network and recipient of an NSF CAREER Award and the American Geophysical Union’s Atmospheric Ascent Award will highlight her work in atmospheric chemistry and climate change.

April 26: How to Reduce Implicit Bias in Academia and Beyond
The Rising Tide Advocates & Allies will host this special luncheon event focused on offering strategies for recognizing and addressing implicit bias on campus, and off.

April 28: Advancing to Full
A popular workshop where colleagues who have earned the rank of full professor share their best advice and strategies for achieving promotion, in a panel discussion format.
Join these distinguished panelists to hear about their experiences with the promotion process: Ali Abedi (Engineering); Sue Erich (School of Food & Ag); Susan Gardner (Education & Human Development); Nate Stormer (Liberal Arts & Sciences), and HR Partner John Kidder.

May 17: ADVANCING Women in Academia: 5th Annual Networking Conference
This year our signature event includes a keynote by Erin Kelly of MIT Sloan School of Management, a number of facilitated workshops and small group discussions focused on work-life balance, supporting gender equality, effective networking, and developing grass roots advocacy groups to create and sustain institutional change. An informal poster session will facilitate sharing your work with colleagues and graduate students from across Maine. Faculty and graduate students are welcome.

August 11: Dept Chair/Director Professional Development Day
Join a committee of your administrative peers to learn more about effective leadership and the many challenges administrative service presents. Morning sessions will be facilitated by Tamara Mitchell of the UMaine System Office of Organizational Effectiveness; Human Resources and Equal Opportunity partners will lead the afternoon activities which will highlight the many resources available on our campus.

September 27: STRIDE – Strategies and Tactics for Recruiting to Improve Diversity and Excellence
Northeastern University colleagues Jacqueline Isaacs and Jan Rinehart will share best practices for faculty recruitment to achieve UMaine diversity goals and to foster innovation on our campus and across the University of Maine System. This event is recommended for faculty serving, or likely to serve on search committees, department chairs and directors, diversity advocates and all who are interested in enhancing search and hiring processes.

November 29: WiSTEMM: Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine
WiSTEMM is recruiting faculty members interested in shaping the culture at UMaine. Attend this informational meeting and consider joining this new group focused on supporting the professional development of women faculty. WiSTEMM will partner with AWIS, the Association for Women in Science, to present a unified voice for issues affecting women in STEMM fields at UMaine.
