What are the fall 2022 COVID-19 vaccination requirements for students who will be in person on campus?

University students who plan to participate in any on-campus or university-sponsored experience must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 — completing the primary vaccine series doses in a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or completing a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine — or obtain a University of Maine System-approved exemption.

Booster shots are strongly encouraged for all students as a way to prevent severe cases of COVID-19.

All of the latest guidance on fall vaccination requirements for students is on the University of Maine System website.

Note: These requirements have been updated from previously posted requirements for summer and fall 2022 (see Summer 2022 student COVID-19 vaccination requirement (03/14/2022)).

For additional information see American College Health Association (ACHA), whose guidance indicates that institutions of higher education (IHE) should require COVID-19 vaccinations and recommend boosters. The CDC recommends that IHEs should promote vaccinations and develop processes/policies to make getting vaccinated easier.
