I am happy to announce the appointment of Dr. Clarissa Henry as the new Program Director of the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering (GSBSE). Dr. Henry is a faculty member in the University of Maine School of Biology and Ecology, and has been associated with the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering, since its inception in 2006. She has a distinguished professional record, including extensive experience in research and graduate education.

As the newly appointed GSBSE Program Director, Dr. Henry will work in collaboration with a multi-institutional academic team to lead the advancement of GSBSE academic programs, by overseeing and coordinating curricular offerings and enhancements, facilitating a sense of community among GSBSE faculty and students, serving as the point of contact for academic matters, and organizing efforts for pursuit of external funding in support of GSBSE programs and students.

GSBSE is a unique graduate program that consists of the University of Maine as the degree granting institution and five additional cooperating academic and research institutions within Maine. These are the Jackson Laboratory, the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory, the Maine Medical Center Research Institute, the University of New England, and the University of Southern Maine.

Since 2006, GSBSE has been training the next generation of biomedical scientists and engineers, who have been making fundamental discoveries and breakthroughs leading to significant scientific advancements in human health and wellbeing benefitting Maine and beyond.
