Research Interests

Dr. Blossom’s program of research employs an implementation science approach to improve
community capacity to identify and intervene for youth with mental health problems, including
enhancing service delivery, efficiency, access, and engagement. In particular, Dr. Blossom’s
research evaluates the effectiveness and implementation of evidence-based interventions (EBIs)
within pediatric primary care and community settings with the ultimate goal of realizing a public
health impact of EBIs for common youth mental health concerns. The lab works closely with
both academic collaborators (e.g., researchers at the University of Washington, Indiana
University School of Medicine, University of Miami) and community partners (e.g., integrated
behavioral health clinicians, pediatricians, school personnel).

Additionally, Dr. Blossom maintains an active line of research aiming to identify modifiable risk
and protective factors that influence youths’ risk of developing internalizing problems. Broadly,
this line of research examines individual, environmental, and transactional etiological factors that
contribute to the development and maintenance of youth internalizing problems with the goal of
informing targeted prevention and intervention efforts.

Examples of specific projects include:

Evaluation of a brief intervention model for youth with anxiety, depression, and
behavioral concerns in integrated pediatric primary care

Development and evaluation of a pediatric primary care suicide prevention program

Evaluating training of integrated primary care clinicians and associations between
training and implementation of evidence-based practices

Pilot trial of a brief evidence-based trauma intervention in pediatric primary care

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses related to child and adolescent mental health

Development of a child, family, and community research network
