Our clinicians are committed to using evidence-based treatment, meaning we use techniques that research shows to be helpful. Our goal is for your child to feel better and get back to the activities they need and want to do as soon as possible!<\/p>\n<p>Specific treatment approaches include: cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy skills, exposure and response prevention, behavioral activation, behavior management training, and parent-child interaction therapy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Youth Specialty Services:<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)<\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">:<\/span><\/strong><\/em> PCIT is an evidence-based treatment for children aged 2-7 experiencing behavioral and\/or emotional difficulties. This therapy approach combines active skills training with live supportive coaching to help caregivers develop the skills needed to manage their child\u2019s behavior and strengthen the caregiver-child relationship. Click <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/psychological-services-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2023\/11\/Caregiver-PCIT-Flyer.pdf\">here<\/a> for more information about PCIT at the University of Maine or visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcit.org\/for-parents.html\">PCIT International website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Individual &amp; Group Exposure-based Anxiety &amp; OCD Treatment:<\/span> <\/em>Anxiety is a common feeling that can sometimes be helpful. Anxiety becomes a problem when it keeps your child from doing things they need (e.g., ask questions in class) or want (e.g., join the soccer team) to do. Exposure, or brave practice, is <em><strong>the most effective treatment<\/strong> <\/em>when anxiety or OCD symptoms get in the way. In the PSC, we provide exposure-based anxiety treatment and exposure and response prevention for OCD in both individual and group services. Give us a call <strong>(207) 581-2034<\/strong> or email us at: <a href=\"mailto:child.group@umainepsc.hush.com\">child.group@umainepsc.hush.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Caregiver Wellness Skills Group:<\/span><\/em> Based on highly effective dialectical behavior therapy core skills, participants (caregivers\/parents) in this group learn ways to manage the stress of parenting, how to build a stronger relationship with their children, and how to better manage their emotions \u2013 all within a supportive environment alongside other parents. Our next group starts in March 2025 and we are currently offering both in-person and telehealth services. Child care services are available for the in-person group. Give us a call <strong>(207) 581-2034<\/strong> or email us at: <a href=\"mailto:child.group@umainepsc.hush.com\">child.group@umainepsc.hush.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Please note that we are unable to offer child assessment services at this time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>Adult Services<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Therapy\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We offer therapy for common mental health concerns in adults, including anxiety and depression, using treatment approaches including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Behavioral Activation (BA).\u00a0 Our clinicians are committed to using evidence-based treatment, meaning we use techniques that research shows to be helpful.\u00a0 This means treatment is active (learning and practicing new skills) and brief (12-15 weeks). <\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Assessment<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We offer targeted assessments for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as comprehensive psychological evaluations.
