Sabrina DeTurk, Ph.D
Dr. Sabrina DeTurk, Director of Faculty Development and Strategic Initiatives, is an art historian, academic leader, and curator whose career bridges scholarship, teaching, and higher education administration. She is currently a Lecturer in the Honors College at the University of Maine. Her administrative career spans more than two decades in the U.S. and abroad, including roles as Associate Dean and Executive Director of Graduate Arts and Sciences at Saint Joseph’s University, Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Salem College, Assistant Dean for Research and Outreach in the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises at Zayed University in Dubai, and Assistant Provost for Learning Support and Faculty Development at La Salle University. Across these posts, she has developed new academic programs, advanced faculty research and student success initiatives, and guided major accreditation and strategic planning efforts. As a scholar, Dr. DeTurk’s research focuses on representations of women in early modern Venetian art and on contemporary art and visual culture in the Middle East. Her publications include Street Art in the Middle East (2019), Women and Contemporary Art in the Gulf (2022), and the forthcoming Women in Early Modern Venetian Art: Fluid Identities (2026). She also co-edits Routledge’s book series Cultural Heritage, Art and Museums in the Middle East. Dr. DeTurk holds a Ph.D. in the History of Art from Bryn Mawr College and a B.A. from Wellesley College.
