Maine Memo — Community message regarding the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas
Dear University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias communities,
Today we are reeling from the news from Uvalde, Texas, where an act of horrific violence took the lives of 19 elementary schoolchildren and two adults, their teachers, yesterday.
Like so many of you, I am heartbroken and outraged in the face of such incomprehensible tragedy. As we all process this devastating news, I encourage you to reach out to those around you. UMaine students, faculty, or staff in need of support can contact the Counseling Center, the university’s Employee Assistance Program, or the Dean of Students Office.
Through our shock and mourning, I urge you to remain firm in the resolve to eliminate hatred and violence in our society.
