Message to students — March 12

Dear Students,

We realize that moving courses online for the second half of the semester has been disappointing and disruptive for you.

We share your disappointment.

We know that in addition to your courses, you have cherished friends here, as well as favorite clubs and activities. You are a large part of what makes UMaine so special. And for many of you this is home.

But in light of the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation, we needed to take swift action. Our first priority is to protect your health and safety, as well as the health and safety of faculty, staff and the surrounding community.

Please know that we will continue to support you in every way we can.

In this unprecedented health crisis, we do not yet have answers to some of your questions. We’re listening to medical experts and monitoring the changing situation.

We appreciate your love of UMaine, as well as your resilience, feedback and messages. We’ll be in touch regularly to provide updates, answers and information.

Together we will get through this very challenging time.

Sincerely,

Joan Ferrini-Mundy, President
Robert Q. Dana, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students
