SUMMARY:27th NSF EPSCoR National Conference
DESCRIPTION:The University of Maine will host the 27th NSF EPSCoR National Conference in Portland\, Maine this year in November. \nRegister now via the conference website! \nThe national EPSCoR (Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) conference is proposed for November 13 – 16\, 2022. Its theme\, “Translating Stakeholder Needs Into Impactful Research Outcomes\,” will engage audiences from different sectors\, disciplines and jurisdictions\, including state legislators\, congressional representatives\, federal employees\, jurisdictional project directors and administrators\, as well as members of EPSCoR state committees\, scientists\, junior faculty members\, and students.\nEPSCoR aims to increase research capacity\, strengthen STEM education\, and advance science and engineering in jurisdictions that have historically received limited funding from NSF. The 27th NSF EPSCoR National Conference will support this overall mission.\nThe conference will not only provide the necessary tools and inspiration for EPSCoR communities to create national change\, but also encourage EPSCoR jurisdictions to find new and innovative ways to impact their home states and territories\, says Shane Moeykens\, director of Maine EPSCoR\, which is based at the University of Maine. \nWorkshops and information sessions will focus on broadening community participation in STEM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, and Mathematics)\, economic development\, commercialization\, best practices for virtual delivery of curricular content to underrepresented communities\, and more. \nStudents from EPSCoR jurisdictions will present their research\, and research outcomes achieved through community science engagement will be showcased. DESCRIPTION:Climate Change Institute Lecture Series featuring Dr. Adrián Cerezo  \n“Modeling a Pathway to Climate Solutions Based on Sustainable Development and Human Wellbeing” \n\nMonday\, March 25\, 2024 at 12 PM \n300 Bryand Global Science Center \nUniversity of Maine or Via Zoom \n\nAbout the speaker: \nAdrián is a Visiting Researcher and CHILD project Fellow at the Yale Child Study Center\, and a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Maine Portland Gateway. His transdisciplinary work explores the fundamental role of Early Childhood Development (ECD) in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Adrián has a PhD and MESc from Yale University with a focus on social ecology\, child development\, complex systems\, and global policy\, as well as more than 25 years of field experience in environmental and community-based education. \nHe currently serves as Senior Advisor on Early Childhood Development and Climate Change to the Asia Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood (ARNEC)\, UNICEF Pacific\, and the Early Childhood Development Action Network (ECDAN). In November of 2022\, he joined the delegation of the Republic of the Marshall Islands at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27). Adrián is also the founder and president of the Infinite Kindness Project in Maine. His lifelong aspiration is to contribute to a kinder\, more sustainable future.
