Government funding agencies, private corporations, and private foundations have given financial support to support research on the learning and teaching of physics.<\/p>\n<p>Training in PER lends itself to a variety of career goals,<br \/>\nincluding:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>research and teaching at the university level<\/li>\n<li>teaching at the primary and secondary level<\/li>\n<li>consulting<\/li>\n<li>software development<\/li>\n<li>museum education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Joining the group<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/umaine.edu\/per\/collaborations\/joining-the-group\/\">Are you interested in joining us? Click here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Meetings<\/h2>\n<p>Several members of our group are actively involved in the organization of conferences in physics education research, interdisciplinary research in education, and more. For more information, click here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/ffperbarharbor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FFPER: Foundations and Frontiers of Physics Education Research<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chem.purdue.edu\/Towns\/TRUSE\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRUSE: Transforming Research in Undergraduate STEM Education<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/risecenter\/conferences-colloquia\/\">RiSE Center conferences<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/per\/collaborations\/hsmeeting\/\">High School Physics Teacher meetings<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also regularly attend the national meetings of the American Association of Physics Teachers, the American Physical Society, RUME meetings (of the community doing Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education), and the Gordon Conferences on Physics Education. We occasionally attend meetings such as the International Society of the Learning Sciences and others.
