Outdoor Programs To Introduce Opportunities to New Students (OPTIONS)

Excited to begin your life at UMaine? OPTIONS trips are outdoor trips with a focus on outdoor adventure and helping you prepare for your upcoming college experience. You will meet awesome new people, make lasting friendships, learn about University life from experienced UMaine students, and make connections that will set up up for success!

The OPTIONS experience begins and ends on the UMaine Campus. The time in-between will be spent in the great Maine outdoors.

OPTIONS Trips

Acadia Hike & Climb

All-Inclusive Price: $390. June 27 – July 1 or August 1 – August 5

Spend 5 days climbing, hiking, and camping in the beautiful Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island.

Penobscot River Canoe

All-Inclusive Price: $390. July 11 – July 15 or August 8 – August 12

Spend 5 days on a highway for travelers for over 1,000 years, you will travel by canoe and camp along the banks of the upper west branch of the Penobscot River.

Baxter Traverse

All-Inclusive Price: $390. July 25 – 29  or August 15 – August 19

Spend 5 days backpacking in the beautiful Baxter State Park. Start at the North Gate and hike Southbound camping along the way, before attempting to summit Katahdin.

OPTIONS Adventures

Mahoosuc Mountains Adventure

All-Inclusive Price: $350.  August 25 – 27, 2021

Spend 3 days with other first-year students in the cabins of UMaine’s 4H learning center. Hike to mountain summits on the Appalachian Trail, rock climb on big granite walls, or canoe in the shadow of the Mahoosuc Mountains.

Coastal Islands Adventure

All-Inclusive Price: $350.  August 25 – 27, 2021

Spend 3 days with other first-year students in the cabins of UMaine’s 4H learning center. Venture down to the iconic coast of Maine and spend a few days exploring hiking, and rock climbing around our Blueberry Cove.
