Minimize Campfire Impact

Campfires are lovely and are often considered an essential for camping trips, they are also an essential skill that everyone spending significant time in the wilderness should be well versed in. That being said campfires also have a significant impact on the environment so we should do our best to minimize that. Here are some tips to keep in mind for campfires.

Use established fire sites as often as possible

Aside from helping to keep the fire contained using established fire sites consolidates the impact of fires into one area. This is important as not only does it reduce the visual impact of fires but it also consolidates the environmental impact of fires into one area.

Dispose of your fire safely

Fires come with the risk of spreading, to combat this make sure that there is always at least one person watching the fire. On top of that make sure that you completely burn off your fire and spread the ashes to make sure there is no chance of it re-igniting.

Small fires

To prevent further environmental impact from fires and to keep them safer it is important to only use wood that you find already on the ground and that can be snapped by hand.
