Troubled teen explores cosmos in ‘Cosmogenesis’ play at Versant Power Astronomy Center
The Versant Astronomy Center at the University of Maine will host several performances of “Cosmogenesis: The Story of Us,” featuring actors from True North Theatre in Bangor, starting Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
The play takes viewers along the journey of a struggling teenage dance student who’s contemplating dropping out of college. She’s introduced to a mentor who takes her through billions of years of scientific discovery of the cosmos, giving her the insight to see back in time and contemplate the universe. The story aims to inspire hope and agency in young people in the face of many societal challenges and other stressors.
The performance was written by playwright Rebecca Sophia Strong and created in collaboration between University of Colorado Boulder’s Fiske Planetarium and Colorado University’s Theater & Dance Department. Strong will be at the astronomy center for the premier and hold a talk back after the Nov. 8 showing.
Tickets are $20 per person and can purchased online, at the door or by calling 207.581.1341
More information and show dates are available on the astronomy center website.
