Bruce Hall named University of Maine’s CARET delegate

Bruce Hall has been named the Maine delegate to the Council for Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching (CARET). Hall will represent the University of Maine’s Maine Agricultural and Forest Experiment Station and the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture.

CARET is a nationwide collaboration that advocates for understanding and support of the food and agriculture research, extension and education advanced by the land-grant university system. It was established in 1982 by the Board on Agriculture Assembly of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities.

Hall was nominated for the position by Diane Rowland, dean of the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture and director of the Maine Agricultural and Forest Experiment Station.

“CARET members are important voices for land grant university and domestic agriculture. I am grateful to have Bruce join this national initiative to tell UMaine’s story,” Rowland said.

Hall is Director of Agroecology at Wyman’s, a 149-year-old 5th generation family-owned Wild Blueberry grower and processor based in Milbridge that is the nation’s top frozen fruit brand in retail. In 2022, Wyman’s made a donation to establish the Wyman’s Wild Blueberry Teaching and Research Center at UMaine.

Hall has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Tampa, and pursued graduate studies in botany from Miami University. He represents the wild blueberry industry on UMaine’s Board of Agriculture and is a board member for Penn State’s Center for Pollinator Research. He also serves as a committee chair for the Wild Blueberry Advisory Committee.
