Media report on state’s application for floating offshore wind lease

The Associated Press, Maine Public, the Mount Desert Islander, Splash 247.com, Recharge, Windtech International and The Hill reported that Maine Gov. Janet Mills has applied for a lease to build a floating offshore wind demonstration site in federal water approximately 30 miles off the coast of Maine. About 12 floating hulls, which were developed at the Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine, will be sited in a 4.5-kilometer area in the Gulf of Maine. In a statement published in renews.BIZ, The Maritime Executive and Renewable Energy Magazine, UMaine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy described the floating array as the next step in the evolution of offshore wind, and a demonstration of the university’s commitment to meeting Maine’s energy goals. The Portland Press Herald and the Bangor Daily News shared the AP story.
