UMaine adds marketing and communications leader for Machias campus

The University of Maine has appointed a new communications leader to serve as the assistant director of marketing and communications for its regional campus, the University of Maine at Machias.

Kristel Mead will be a primary contact for regional media and stakeholders, and will serve as the liaison among the functional leads of UMaine’s Division of Marketing and Communications, Enrollment Management, campus leaders and community members.

“Our Machias campus is a vital part of Maine’s research and land grant university, and we have great stories to share,” says Dan Qualls, UMaine Machias vice president for academic affairs and head of campus. “Kristel brings great energy to her work and we are excited to have a full-time communicator supporting our faculty, staff, students and stakeholders. She will be working with us daily to increase engagement with our programs, and to invite more students and area citizens to join our vibrant learning and research community.”

Mead is assisting with the production of materials in support of the fall 2022 admissions cycle for the Machias campus. She also is coordinating the kickoff event of a campus outreach campaign planned for Oct. 6 with UMaine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy, students, faculty and staff.

Mead is a native of Oakland, Maine and has worked in the University of Maine System since 2015. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s certificate in leadership studies, both from the University of Southern Maine. She will be working primarily on the Orono and Machias campuses.
