Phone service outage planned for Sept. 7
Telephone service at the University of Maine will be disrupted briefly between 9 and 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7 when the service provider conducts maintenance.
Calls to campus telephones with the 581 exchange from external numbers will be impacted. Calls between campus phone numbers will be unaffected.
The time of the disruption is not known, but it is expected to last five minutes. Calls in progress at that time will be terminated; external calls to campus phone numbers during the outage will be unsuccessful. External callers will hear a busy signal or receive an automated message depending on their telephone service providers’ settings.
In the event of an emergency, dialing 911 from a cell phone will direct callers to the Penobscot Regional Dispatch or the Maine State Police.
