Handley talks with Press Herald about tomatoes
David Handley, a University of Maine Cooperative Extension vegetable and small fruit specialist, spoke with the Portland Press Herald about the 2021 tomato season. Handley noted that the dry start to the season was beneficial for reducing the occurrence of some tomato diseases, but it also reduced calcium uptake by plants that were not watered regularly, which can lead to blossom-end rot.
