Media report on passing of William Yellow Robe, Merrill award

The Bangor Daily News reported that William S. Yellow Robe, acclaimed playwright and adjunct faculty member at the University of Maine, died July 19 at the age of 61. Yellow Robe, who taught numerous graduate and undergraduate classes at UMaine, explored the racial, cultural and emotional faultlines of Native American life through his plays, highlighting injustice in the treatment of Native Americans by the mainstream. On July 21, Broadway World reported that Yellow Robe received an award from the Helen Merrill Fund in recognition of his exceptional career as a playwright.
