ESPN interviews Mayewski about research on Mount Everest

ESPN interviewed Paul Mayewski for an article about what people learned about Mount Everest in the past 100 years. Mayewski, director of the University of Maine’s Climate Change Institute, discussed findings from the National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Everest Expedition, particularly the pollutants found trapped in glaciers. “As they melt, they release those toxic substances, like microplastics and forever chemicals including lead, cadmium, nitrogen and sulfur compounds,” he said. “In general, wherever people go, pollution goes.”
