Franco American Programs publishes Beliveau biography

In partnership with the University of Maine Press, Franco American Programs has published “First Franco: Albert Beliveau in Law, Politics, and Love,” by Douglas Rooks.

The book, which shares the life story of prominent Maine Supreme Court justice Albert Beliveau, is a rare biography of a first-generation French-Canadian descendant in the United States, provides perspective on the migration experience, the rise from the working class, and the development of political consciousness among Maine’s largest ethnic group.

Rooks, Albert Beliveau’s son Severin, and Susan Pinette, director of Franco American Programs at the University of Maine, will appear on ”Maine Calling” at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 6 to discuss the book and Franco Americans in Maine.
