Mitchell Center to host first annual food waste forum April 9

The Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions at the University of Maine will host the first annual Maine Food Waste Solutions Summit 10 a.m.–noon April 9 via Zoom.

In Maine, annual food waste is estimated at 300 million pounds, or 219 pounds per person, which translates to $600 million in financial losses, even as 200,000 Mainers report experiencing food insecurity.

Summit goals include increasing awareness of food waste, educating communities and developing a plan of action needed to implement sustainability solutions in Maine.

Register for the summit on or before March 26, or request more information by contacting Susanne Lee, susanne.lee@maine.edu
