Online Critical Thinking workshop offered through Hutchinson Center

Registration is open for an online professional development workshop, “Engaging Your Critical Thinking Skills,” offered by the University of Maine Hutchinson Center via Zoom 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Feb. 19 and Feb. 26.

This two-day program, which is presented in partnership with the Maine Business School, is part of the Hutchinson Center’s professional development program, and is intended to teach skills that facilitate effective, directed action. Employers recognize that critical thinking is necessary for employees to bridge the gap between technical information and client needs. By addressing common communication issues, this program empowers participants to question assumptions, build constructive arguments, solve problems and negotiate positive personal and professional relationships.

Terry Porter, professor emerita in the Maine Business School, will facilitate. A 2014 Fulbright scholar, she holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology and is a certified mental health counselor with more than 30 years of experience as a teacher, coach, guide and facilitator.

The cost to attend is $150 per person; a limited number of need-based scholarships are available for those who live or work in Knox and Waldo Counties. Participants will receive a certificate of completion, and 0.75 CEUs/7.5 contact hours are available.
