Dill gives BDN details about tomato-destroying tobacco hornworms

James Dill talked with the Bangor Daily News about the tomato plant-destroying tobacco hornworms. “You look at your garden all summer and nothing is wrong and then one morning there’s this worm eating your tomatoes,” said the University of Maine Cooperative Extension pest management specialist. Overnight, tobacco hornworms, which are bright green with white diagonal stripes, can devour an eggplant, pepper plant or tomato plant. Dill said hornworms will be right above their droppings, or frass. He recommended picking them off plants one by one.
