AMC slated for upgrades, media report

The Associated Press, WABI (Channel 5), WAGM (Channel 8 in Presque Isle) and Mainebiz reported the Advanced Manufacturing Center at the University of Maine is upgrading its equipment as part of a drive to bring new kinds of industry to the state. The AMC is receiving $2.5 million for the upgrades, including a $1 million award from the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership to improve the center’s Center for Additive Manufacturing of Metals, the AP report states. The AMC also is receiving $1.5 million for equipment upgrades to better meet the needs of industry and workforce in Maine, including $750,000 from the U.S. Economic Development Administration and matching funds from UMaine and the Maine Technology Institute.
