UMaine accepting applications for after-school art program

The University of Maine Department of Art is accepting applications for the after-school ArtWorks! Program.

The program for students in grades K–8 provides opportunities to explore art through hands-on experiences with a variety of visual media, as well as the history of art and viewing of artistic works.

The five-week fall ArtWorks! sessions will be held on Fridays beginning Oct. 18 from 3:30–5 p.m. in Lord Hall on the UMaine campus. The program culminates with an exhibition of the children’s works on Nov. 15.

Classes are organized by age and/or grade level and taught by art education majors who are preparing to become art teachers. The program is supervised by Constant Albertson, an associate professor of art and art education.

A $25 per-student fee covers the cost of materials; a limited number of scholarships are available. The application deadline is Oct. 14. To apply, contact Albertson, 581.3251; constant@maine.edu. More information also is available by calling the UMaine Department of Art, 581.3245.
