UMaine to recognize Holocaust Remembrance Day May 2

The University of Maine will recognize Holocaust Remembrance Day at noon May 2 at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King Memorial Plaza behind Memorial Union.

The event will correspond with national and international events, and remarks will be given.

In Hebrew, Holocaust Remembrance Day is called Yom Hashoah. In the United States, Days of Remembrance run from the Sunday before Yom Hashoah through the following Sunday; April 28–May 5 this year.

The theme of the Holocaust remembrance and education activities this year is “Holocaust Remembrance: Demand and Defend Your Human Rights.” This theme encourages youth to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust, act against discrimination and defend democratic values in their communities.
