Franco American Centre to offer curriculum development workshop April 15

The University of Maine’s Franco American Centre is offering a Curriculum Development Workshop, open to all University of Maine System faculty and graduate students, from 1–4 p.m. April 15. Participants will receive a $250 stipend and will be reimbursed for travel.

Led by Mark Richard, Libra Professor of History and Canadian Studies at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, and Susan Pinette, director of Franco American Programs, the workshop is intended to help participants who would like to integrate Franco content into their teaching and research.

Richard will offer an overview of French-Canadian migration to the United States, and sources to help teach Franco American history within the frameworks of 19th-century migrations, industrialization, nativist anti-migration sentiment, and issues of assimilation. Pinette will offer resources to teach Franco American literature within both Francophone/French contexts and American literature.

Both presenters are members of the Executive Board of the American Council for Québec Studies. They will share information on obtaining financial resources to support research and teaching in Franco content areas. Registration is online. For more information, contact Pinette at 581.3791; spinette@maine.edu.
