UMaine accepting applications for after-school art program

The University of Maine Department of Art is accepting applications for the after-school ArtWorks! Program.

The program for students in grades K–8 provides opportunities to explore art through hands-on experiences with a variety of visual media, as well as the history of art and viewing of artistic works.

The five-week spring ArtWorks! sessions will be held on Fridays beginning Feb. 8 from 3:30–5 p.m. in Lord Hall on the UMaine campus. The program culminates with an exhibition of the children’s works on March 8.

Classes are organized by grade level and taught by art education majors who are preparing to become art teachers. The program is supervised by Constance Albertson, an associate professor of art.

A $25 per-student fee covers the cost of materials; a limited number of scholarships are available. The application deadline is Jan. 31. To apply, contact Albertson, 581.3251; constant@maine.edu. More information also is available by calling the UMaine Department of Art, 581.3245.
