AP reports Townsend awarded $1M grant for adult brain research

The Associated Press reported Kristy Townsend, an assistant professor of neurobiology at the University of Maine, was awarded a $1 million grant by the National Science Foundation for research on the adult brain. Townsend’s five-year study will investigate the creation of new nerve cells in adult brains, and engage students in the field of biomedicine, according to the report. Other project goals are developing an outreach program and creating a summer fellowship with Maine community colleges.
