Graduate students in University of Maine assistant research professor Joshua Stoll’s fisheries policy and management course traveled to Washington D.C. March 30.

The students met with U.S. Sen. Angus King’s office, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration’s Sustainable Fisheries Division, and the Lenfest Ocean Program.

Meeting with state, federal and nongovernmental representatives showed the students a variety of perspectives about current fisheries issues. The students asked representatives what they saw as the most pressing challenges in the future of fisheries policy and management and also used the trip as a professional development opportunity.
