He was a combat medic in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division; now he studies botany.
My father and grandfather both served in the military and spent a lot of time gardening after their service. I tried different things after the military, but somehow ended up in botany. It’s peaceful. I guess it’s a family tradition. I enjoy growing vegetables for cooking and tulips and lilies for decoration. I’m a descendant of the Acadians exiled in the 1750s, so I’ve always been interested in this region of the world. UMaine’s location sold me. I get to study at a great school and explore the old Acadian stomping grounds.
