UMaine mentioned in Ellsworth American article on winter shrimp fishing

The University of Maine was mentioned in the Ellsworth American article, “Odds are tiny for a winter shrimp fishing season.” Members of the Atlantic State Marine Fisheries Commission’s Northern Shrimp Section are scheduled to meet Wednesday to establish dates and landings limits for the 2018 winter shrimp fishing season, according to the article. Most evidence suggests the limit, or total allowable catch, will be zero, and there will be no season at all, the article states. Northern shrimp are a coldwater species. Data collected by scientists at UMaine, NOAA Fisheries, the Gulf of Maine Research Institute and elsewhere show that water temperatures in the western Gulf of Maine — prime shrimp habitat — have increased steadily during the past 10 years and, more recently, “reached unprecedented highs,” according to the commission’s recently released status report. Mount Desert Islander also published the Ellsworth American article.
