WGME cites UMaine study in report on state’s pulp and paper industry

At approximately 9:24 a.m. on Friday, April 19, a student was struck by a university vehicle on Long Road at the University of Maine campus in Orono.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene and the student has been transported to a local hospital. The student’s family has been informed.

Counseling services and support are available for students, faculty or staff who may have been affected. The Counseling Center can be reached at 207-581-1392 or you may call the Dean of Students Office at 207-581-1406.

An investigation is underway and more details will be released when they become available. Our thoughts are with the student and their family.

WGME (Channel 13 in Portland) cited a study conducted by the Maine Forest Products Council and the University of Maine in a report about the state’s pulp and paper industry. According to the study, the industry had an $8.5 billion economic impact in 2016. “We have gone through some transitions and we’re in the middle of some of those transitions, but we’re very much alive and kicking and a growing kind of industry,” said Patrick Strauch, executive director of the council.
