Penobscot Marine Museum photography exhibits at the Hutchinson Center

Penobscot Marine Museum’s historic photography exhibits “Acadia National Park: A Postcard View” and “The History of Postcards” will be at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center H. Allen Fernald Gallery March 13–May 22.

The free public exhibit in the H. Allen and Sally Fernald Art Gallery, open 8 a.m.–7 p.m. weekdays.

“Acadia National Park: A Postcard View” features photos from the early days of Acadia National Park taken by the Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Co. The photos are accompanied by historical captions by Liz Fitzsimmons. This exhibit was created for the 100th anniversary of Acadia National Park.

“The History of Postcards” was the theme of the Penobscot Marine Museum’s summer 2016 exhibit that celebrated the 100th anniversary of Maine Postcard Day. The exhibit includes photos with captions that depict the role that postcards played in early social media.
