Steneck speaks at fisheries commission meeting, Mount Desert Islander reports

Robert Steneck, a professor at the University of Maine’s School of Marine Sciences, spoke this week to members of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) at the beginning of their annual meeting in Bar Harbor, the Mount Desert Islander reported. Steneck “gave an entertaining overview of commercial fisheries in the Gulf of Maine, and in Penobscot Bay in particular, from 2000 B.C. to the present.” According to the paper, the talk looked at how the cod and haddock fishery of the 18th and 19th centuries evolved into one that now focuses almost exclusively on lobster.
