University of Maine business professor Nory Jones and three student assistants will explain at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17 a new marketing research project that employs several social networking Internet platforms to help tourism-related small businesses and nonprofits in the western Maine mountains area. Using Facebook, Twitter and a dedicated EcoMaine website, Jones and the students have been increasing public exposure for dozens of businesses in a research project
that demonstrates how social media and Internet exposure can improve regional economies and economic development. They’ll explain in Room 218 of the D.P. Corbett Business Building survey results from before the initiative began four months ago and what the results show now. Feedback from participants — businesses, chambers of commerce and economic development offices — Jones says, has been positive.
