Herbert Maccoby, former professor and chair of the University of Maine Department of Sociology from 1971 to 1985, died Feb. 26, 2012, in Oakland, Calif. He was 89 years old. According to a Bangor Daily News obituary, Maccoby also taught at the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Pittsburgh and Kansas State University.
