Ecologist Interviewed About Vernal Pools
Maine Public Radio interviewed Aram Calhoun, a UMaine professor of wetland ecology, about a proposal before the Maine legislature to loosen restrictions on development near vernal pools. Calhoun told the interviewer a reduction of buffers could wipe out pool-breeding amphibians in Maine. She added that since 2006 no permits have been denied because of a significant vernal pool.
