Fernandez Delivers Prestigious Soil Sciences Lecture

UMaine professor of soil science Ivan J. Fernandez, who recently received a distinguished lifetime appointment as a Class of 2010 fellow in the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA), presented the Sergei A. Wilde Distinguished Lectureship in Forest Soils at the International Annual Meetings of the SSSA Nov. 3 in Long Beach, Ca. This is the highest recognition in forest soils within the society. Fernandez, also a cooperating professor of forest resources, spoke about the role of forest soils in ecosystem responses to a changing climate, and a vision for the future of the discipline.
