Paintings of Maine landscapes from three former University of Maine professors, including a few works that are making their first public appearance, will be on display during a new exhibit at the Lord Hall Gallery opening Aug. 31.
“A Sense of Wonder: The Maine Landscapes of Vincent Hartgen, Michael Lewis, and James Linehan,” which will be on display through Oct. 23, will showcase paintings that span the entire careers of the three titular artists. It will include prominent and lesser-known pieces.
During the exhibit, a gallery talk featuring art critic, poet and writer Carl Little and Linehan, professor emeritus of art, will be held 2-3 p.m. on Oct. 2 during Senior Alumni Weekend. A closing reception will be held at 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 23 during Homecoming.
The exhibit was co-curated by Diana Baumbach, associate professor of art and director of galleries at UMaine, and Linehan. A publication including essays and reproductions will be available in the gallery.
