Tunnel of Oppression

March 29, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

10:00 AM-4:00 PM- Tunnel of Oppression– Memorial Union:

The Tunnel of Oppression is an immersive experience for our community to step into the realities of groups that are oppressed, right here on UMaine’s campus. This program is intended to make the participants feel uncomfortable — to challenge their views and opinions on a multitude of topics. While participants will initially feel uncomfortable, our team will be on hand to guide participants through discussions and available counseling presence.

The interactive immersion program called Tunnel of Oppression will be held in the Memorial Union on March 29, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. The program, featuring skits, videos, and visual aids is designed to give participants experiences related to religious oppression, sexual assault, and mental health disorders; and discrimination based on race, sexual orientation and nationality or culture. The free public event is coordinated by Campus Activities and Student Engagement, in partnership with multiple campus organizations including the Office of Multicultural Student Life. Signing up for the event is easy and can be done here. For more information, contact Benjamin Evans, benjamin.evans@maine.edu.
