ORONO, Maine (WABI) –\u00a0<\/strong>For the 11th year the Maine Summer Transportation Institute is offering educational opportunities for middle and high school students to learn about engineering and transportation related careers.<\/p>\n

MSTI UMaine Summer Camp will be from July 9 – July 20.<\/p>\n

Students are exposed to university life, leadership and team-building activities. There will be a series of lectures, workshops, hand-on laboratories and field trips.<\/p>\n

There are full scholarships available for eligible students. For more information on the camp and how to apply for scholarships you can visit umaine.edu\/msti<\/p>\n

It’s never too early to try to figure out what you want to do when you grow up. Some middle school students in the Bangor Area have a chance this summer to check out careers in the field of engineering and transportation.<\/p>\n

20 students are participating in the Maine Summer Transportation Institute at the University of Maine.<\/p>\n

The program focuses on civil engineering — and takes students on a variety of field trips that introduce them to careers involving the four modes of transportation.<\/p>\n

They also learn about alternative fuels, Construction materials, and computer aided design.<\/p>\n

It’s not all work though — the students get to do team building activities and get to use the recreation facilities at UMaine.<\/p>\n

Some say the experience has opened their eyes to the possibility of a career in the field.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
