SUMMARY:Talk - Making space for seafood in our food systems
DESCRIPTION:The talk will be held virtually via Zoom and in-person at 107 Norman Smith Hall\, UMaine\, Orono. \n\nVirtual attendance: Complete the registration form for Zoom connection information\n\nSpeaker: Josh Stoll\, School of Marine Sciences\, University of Maine \nSeafood is a vital source of nutrition\, cultural identity\, and economic activity\, yet we often forget that it is part of our food systems. Drawing on his experience working with and learning from fishing communities across North America\, Joshua Stoll will share the story of the Local Catch Network and how it has informed his perspective on the role of seafood and fisheries in Maine and beyond. \nJosh Stoll is an associate professor in the School of Marine Sciences at the University of Maine and a Faculty Fellow at the Mitchell Center. He is engaged in interdisciplinary and applied research related to sustainable fisheries\, ocean and coastal governance\, food systems\, and social-ecological dynamics. His research is informed by real-world engagement with marine resource users\, coastal community stakeholders\, and policymakers. For this reason\, much of his work is based in Maine\, where opportunities for regular and ongoing collaboration is most possible.
