SUMMARY:SEMINAR - A Sediment Budget in a Glaciated Region: Tackling the Nonpoint Source Pollution Problem with a Different Kind of Sediment Model
DESCRIPTION:Sponsors:\nSchool of Earth and Climate Sciences\nSenator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions \nDr. Peter Wilcock\nDept. of Watershed Sciences\, Utah State University \nDr. Peter Wilcock is a professor and head of the Department of Watershed Sciences at Utah State University. His career spans over three decades focused on watershed erosion and sedimentation processes and their role in stream restoration and river management\, producing over 78 peer reviewed articles\, two edited volumes\, and a highly regarded text book on Mechanics in the Earth and Environmental Sciences. Widely known for his work on sand and gravel transport in rivers\, he is the recipient of the Hans Albert Einstein Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers and a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union. The sediment transport function derived from his laboratory based experimentation has become a staple for prediction in hydraulic simulation software developed by the U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His presentation will summarize his recent collaborative research with the National Center for Earth Surface Dynamics that identifies and quantifies watershed sources and sinks in Minnesota using multiple approaches for the purpose of guiding effective watershed management responses to nonpoint source pollution problems.
