2021 Shellfish Focus Day shifts to multiple, virtual events

Shellfish Focus Day is typically held on the first day of the annual Maine Fishermen’s Forum. After the cancellation of the in-person forum for 2021, volunteers planned three webinars and radio programs focused on important topics in Maine’s shellfish industry.

Coming up on April 14, 2 – 4 p.m., the final event will focus on “Shellfish Markets and the Seafood Supply Chain.” More information can be found here.

Catch a broadcast of the second event, “What’s Changing on the Mudlfats?,” on WERU’s Coastal Conversations radio show on Friday, March 26 at 4 p.m. In this event, shellfish harvesters, researchers, and municipal marine resource committee members talk about what they are observing on the flats and their various efforts to survey and monitor wild shellfish populations.

The first event, “Shellfish Harvesting for the Future,” was held on February 22 and aired on WERU’s Coastal Conversations radio show—listen here.
