Mitchell Center seeks graduate student to assist with equity evaluation

The Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant (RA) to assist with an evaluation of equity issues for the Maine Climate Council. This is a short-term position starting in mid-June and ending in mid-September 2020 with a stipend of $1,917 per month (20 hours/week).

The RA will be responsible for performing complex research-related tasks as part of the Mitchell Center’s role in advising the Maine Climate Council (MCC) about strategies to enhance the MCC’s equity outcomes. The work will include analyzing reports, planning documents and draft climate strategies from six MCC working groups in the context of an equity framework developed by Dr. Linda Silka and Dr. David Hart. The RA will be required to work without direct supervision at times and will frequently exercise a high level of independent judgment and initiative related to the analyses of the reports. Activities will include meeting and coordination with representatives from other organizations, government agencies, professional groups and interested parties.

Specific tasks will include: performing administrative responsibilities related to the equity analysis of draft climate strategies; attending open, virtual meetings of the MCC and/or Working Groups; incorporating feedback from diverse audiences regarding the equity framework and equity analyses of draft climate strategies; summarizing responses and analyzing draft strategies using the equity framework; and assisting in writing the results and recommendations of the equity analysis.

Qualifications include excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience in internet research and compilation of relevant information, ability to gather pertinent information from diverse groups and individuals, experience analyzing information for integration into reports, and ability to work creatively and independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
