This plan supports and advances the targeted technology sectors that have guided Maine\u2019s R&D investments since state policymakers approved them in 1999. The \u201cheritage industries\u201d of agriculture, aquaculture and marine fisheries, and forestry and forest products correspond directly to individual target sectors. The \u201chigh-growth target sectors\u201d combine elements of multiple sectors in new and creative ways. In doing so, they build on Maine\u2019s historical comparative advantages to create new opportunities across multiple industries.
